The Festival occurs annually in the fall. Since 2000, it has featured some of the most important voices of the West. Typically, the Festival occurs over two or three days, in multiple downtown Missoula venues, with sixty or more sessions of readings, panels, exhibits, performances, receptions, a "literary" contest, silent auction, gala readings, and more, attracting cumulative audiences of 4,000 to 5,000 persons, many from outside the region.
