Coptic Studies at Macquarie University

Coptology is the the study of all the various aspects of Coptic culture, from the Coptic language, its literature, its history to the Egyptian Coptic church. Typically, considered as subset of Egyptology or a minor interest for those enrolled in religious studies, there are minimal offerings at most educational institutions. Macquarie University in Sidney, Australia, best noted for its Department of Ancient History, is an exception. It features Coptic studies amoung its course offerings along with Egyptology, Late Antiquity, Greek papyrology, and Early Christian Studies.

Specifically, Macquarie offers two dedicated degrees in Coptic Studies, the Master of Arts and the Postgraduate Certificate in Coptic Studies. In addition, a variety of other study options are available for postgraduate, undergraduate and research students (including a Ph.D. in Coptic Studies) and other courses for more general audiences. All degrees and study options except the PhD are available online both to students Australia-wide and to international students.

Macquarie University is offering two scholarships for international students (non citizens of Australia and New Zealand) to study Coptic online. The scholarships cover the fees for the course.
