I'd rather buy one of these!

Still requires going out to the money tree, though.

Alright, but in that case, you couldn't just tell your wife you were buying a used SAAB.

:)

One could maybe say it was a used "Triumph":

Might be a bit difficult to explain the sudden need for hangar space, though.

Btw, I'm female and not married. ;-)

Hee, sorry. I remember reading a story in Air Classics magazine about quite a few surplus Hurricanes being sold in Canada after WW2. Apparently, farmers would buy them and scavenge parts for various uses around the farm.

No worries, no offense taken. ;-)

I've heard that story about farmers scavenging Hurricanes too. The Aero Space Museum where I live has a Hurricane that has been in the process of restoration since... the late 1970s(?) and they don't seem to be in a huge hurry to do much with it. It's kind of frustrating.

On the other hand, one of two flying Avro Lancasters in the world (this one is based out of Hamilton, Ontario) came through Calgary a couple of weeks ago and did demo flights for spectators, including a low-level fly-by. Just amazing!! Nothing quite like the sound of four Merlin engines at full throttle.

And just to put things sort of back on topic, I bought "The Battle of Britain" by Kate Moore today, but restrained myself from spending too much money and buying the illustrated version of The Most Dangerous Enemy by Stephen Bungay.

I have an interesting book available to mooch for anyone who is interested. It seems that the title is not sufficiently self-explanatory to receive attention. The book is 'THE PRICE OF VIGILANCE' (2001). This is the hardback issue with photographs, and describes the loss of hundreds of American aircrew to Soviet air defenses before satellite reconnaissence became effective. The book is in very good condition.
