I'd appreciate suggestions on Michigan small/independent bookstores for author events. With the closing of Shaman Drum, for example, I'm unaware of what Ann Arbor harbors. But I'm looking far and wide in the Wolverine State.

Check out Nicola's Books in Ann Arbor, MI: http://www.nicolasbooks.com/

Little Professor wanted to make it their flagship, but it seems to have gone independent. Very nice--small, fireplace, books displayed invitingly, book clubs, literacy events. Local authors , as well as the more well known, seem to be regulars, e.g. author of the kids' Redwall series. It's on the west side of town behind Zingerman's Roadhouse

I am reviving this thread. Great Lakes Book Supply is a great little independent bookstore across from Ferris State University in Big Rapids.

I'm in the Detroit metro area. Borders used to have lots of author events in Birmingham. Now there are no author events around here except local authors at libraries. We have to go to Ann Arbor for author events, and that's an hour and a half drive, which makes it unacceptable if I have to go to work the next day.

If you are in southwest Michigan, try Kazoo Books. http://www.kazoobooks.com/
New and used books, intelligently owned and staffed, and many interesting events!

The link for kazoobooks.com doesn't work, but that seems to be a problem on their end. I'll try again later.
