For my next book I'm considering:
The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark
The Bridge on the Drina by Ivo Andrić
Hadrian the Seventh by Frederick Rolfe
Kiss of the Spider Woman by Manuel Puig
In a Dark Wood Wandering by Hella S. Haasse
An Imaginary Life by David Malouf
Any suggestions, one way or the other?

Of the ones you've listed, I have only read In a Dark Wood Wandering, which I found to be an interesting historical novel. I'd give it a nudge.

The only one of those I've read is The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and my reaction was "meh", but it just could have been the mood I was in. Others rave about it.

Christina - I think you would really like The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. I personally enjoyed it quite a bit - I thought it humorous and I liked Spark's narrative style (not everyone does). And even if you end up not liking it much, it's short, almost a novella, so it's a fast read.

I liked The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie ( you must see the film as well-very old but certainly out on DVD by now) and found The Bridge on the Drina interesting for the history-it was a bit dry.

I also really liked The Prime of Miss Brodie but my nudge is going to The Bridge on the Drina because it's on my tbr pile.

As a Latinist, I've always been interested in reading Malouf's An Imaginary Life, but have never gotten around to it. I would vote for that, so that then you could nudge me toward it!

The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie it will be then. (And, Rob, I plan to read An Imaginary Life in the near future as well).
