How do you feel about Facebook, Twitter, etc.?

I am not sure if it is just me or possibly related to being an INFP. Initially I found people on Facebook from my childhood and some local friends, and was quite excited about it, but then I found myself feeling very uncomfortable posting on a wall, with many people that I know reading it. I am comfortable posting here; I suspect because there is a layer of anonymity. I would like to think that is the I portion of INFP that drives that.... hence this topic.

On Facebook I maintain a pretty strict persona. I'm a teacher and a writer. I rarely stray from that. I use my real name here on LT. Perhaps I'm more open here because I don't meet readers face to face. Most of my Facebook acquaintances are colleagues or students.

When I reconnected recently with friends from highschool, I found that most of them are very different from me in terms of politics and religion. I don't wish to enter into any arguments or conflicts over these things, so I rarely post about them.

I'm pretty open on all forums, including Facebook. We're writers, and have a fairly public persona anyway. I'd rather have the world learn about us from us, rather than from the rumor mill which is quite active in our subculture.

I'm finding it's easier for me to connect with people through FB etc. than through more traditional means. I feel like it gives me more control over how much interaction I can handle. I can deal with a wall post or a private message easier than I can a phone call or even an e-mail.

We publish about religion and politics, both in print and on our website, so no point in us in avoiding those topics. However, I do have some colleagues from my straight job as FB friends, so I am much more restrained about what I say about work.

Now if people from work find this post via Google, they can wonder what I'm holding back ;-)
