What are good manga/anime related websites?

I know that many people have mentioned websites in various group posts, but I though that it would be nice to have them all at one spot. So if you have any good site that you want to share, please post them here.
Sites where you can read manga, watch anime, shop, trade books, etc.

1> To better fill your request, can you share what criteria you have in mind? Such as: acceptable levels of violence, nudity, sexual activity, should it be gay, bi, straight, etc. One would not wish to send anyone to a site which might then cause the viewer some consternation.

For watching anime online, Crunchyroll www.crunchyroll.com has got a good variety, and simulcasts some new series. You can watch many of the series for free, though with new series you usually have to wait a week unless you pay $8/month for an Anime Membership.

FUNimation also offers streams of some episodes of their series - http://www4.funimation.com/video/

Keep in mind that the series on Crunchyroll's and FUNi's websites can range from G- to R-rated.

For buying stuff - RightStuf.com's my personal favorite, but AnimeNation.com's also good, and AnimeCornerStore.com's a good place to try to find things that are sold out elsewhere.

For anime and manga news, AnimeVice.com and AnimeNewsNetwork.com are usually my go-to sites, though I also read the Okazu blog okazu.blogspot.com to keep up-to-date on yuri-related news.

For anime and manga-related discussions, I like the boards at AnimeonDVD.com (now part of Mania.com).

EDIT: There's a couple more I forgot:
-www.sigikki.com is a free online manga magazine Viz publishes. It has an interesting mix aimed at older audiences.
-www.shonensunday.com is another free online manga magazine from Viz. It has preview chapters from some series, and fuller runs of others.
-If you're a Rumiko Takahashi fan, www.therumicworld.com is a good place to visit. It has chapters from Takahashi's latest manga series, Rin-Ne, available for free, and you can also catch episodes of the Inu-Yasha anime (both old and new series).

justmanga.com is my favourite place to buy manga online. Free shipping for orders over $40, plus their whole Club 555 thing where you can get 1 volume an order for $5.55... and they always throw in some candy for free when you order. And who doesn't like candy?

I don't understand the 555 thing. Could you please try to re-explain it.

AnimeNewsNetwork is my main source for the latest anime news and licenses. As for shopping, I mainly shop at the Right Stuf! for my anime DVDs. As for manga, I buy them at the bookstores but if there is something I couldn't find, I order online at the Right Stuf!. I used to order my manga from Just Manga all the time but not anymore. I like the candy they throw in all the time especially the Hello Kitty chocolate filled marshmallow. :D

eww! I don't like marshmallows :(
lol, but the candy idea is cool

Those sites were mentioned before but I don't remember them too much. I'll have to check them out again. However I may not order anything from them since it costs a lot more in shipping since I live in Canada.

I like www.naruto.viz.com for watching, what else, Naruto. It also has Naruto news, message boards and a link to the VIZ Media store. I just recently found www.tvanimeplanet.com that features many different animes. And for shopping I like www.sweetkittyanime.com.

>9 lfortino: thanks for the links. I actually stopped watching Naruto a while back and was thinking to start re-watching the series, so the Naruto website will help.

I'll also have to check out the other ones once I have more time (aka after my exams)

Onemanga.com - Reading manga online

Mangafox.com - Reading manga online

Mangaupdates.com - Gives good summaries and lists where scanlations for each manga can be found.

The-evilempire.net - Filled with good scanlations and has separate yaoi and yuri scanlation sections

Give Crunchyroll a try - I'm not sure if they've got Naruto available in Canada (their country restrictions vary by series). They've got Shippuden for free; I think the original series is available for paid subscribers.

Thanks I'll check it out, but I still need to finish the original series before watching Shippuden. lol

Does anyone happen to have ever come across a website that has covers to manga phonebook magazines? I vaguely remember coming across one for Ribon magazine years ago, and I can't find it now. Amazon.co.jp doesn't have many magazines pre 2005 and most of my collection is 2000-2006.

I'm importing my magazine database into LT but I have no covers. They're all boxed up in the basement and I was hoping to cut down on the number I'd have to scan. Not looking forward to scanning 100 books.

Sorry, they must have changed their site. You didn't used to have to download the episodes.

Thats ok, I'm busy with school and exams starting in just over a week, I don't really want to start to get addicted to anything at the moment (book/series/show, etc)

I do "little to no" watching of anime online, so I don't really have any recommendations for that...although MyAnimeList has links to fansub groups for just about every anime they've got listed.

I also love http://www.animenewsnetwork.com. It's a great site to get information on a series. You can also see what people think of a series (rate). If there are very bad reviews, I may not read the series.

If you want information on manga, http://www.mangaupdates.com/ is a really good site. They have information on just about every single manga & mangaka out there, even pretty obscure stuff. It's really good for looking up things.

I'll second http://www.mangaupdates.com/ - I use it a lot to track the manga I'm reading or want to read. It makes a nice adjunct to LT.

This is utterly off-topic but my post doesn't merit its own thread, I've not found a relevant one, so I've chosen the most recently used one.

What *is* manga? You seem a knowledgeable lot, so I'd like to know your definitions. I'd always thought that manga artwork was invariably in that distinctive style used in the image on the group page here, and several sites I've visited define manga by that style, but I've seen the word defined as (any) Japanese comic, regardless of art style. In fact, I began wondering about this after reading & then googling the wonderful Color Engineering Yuichi Yokoyama. This book to me is as much fine art as comic, yet I found several mentions of its being manga. I'm beginning to wonder if there's a universally accepted definition of it, at least in English--? Cheers.

Style has nothing to do with it. Japanese comics are manga, Chinese comics are manhua and Korean comics are manhwa.
There are lots of very different styles that have been and are used in manga.
