What's a girl to do with all these challenges? I guess I'll pack my backpack and move from hostel to hostel.

2009 -
England - A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers by Xiaolu Guo
France - All the World's Mornings by Pascal Quignard
Italy - Imperium by Robert Harris
Switzerland - Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

The best so far is A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers. It has an impossible touchstone. Right now it's in contention for my personal best book of the year.

Turkey -
The Towers of Trebizond by Rose Macaulay. Despite having an English author the action takes place in mostly Turkey. Interesting social, political and religious commentary about the English and the Turkey that Ataturk created. Biting social satire is the buzzword for this one. I was quite amused, except for the ending.

2010 -

I need to insert a map to keep up with my travels.

Germany - I am now in late 19th century Germany with Elizabeth and her children in her wonderful garden awaiting the arrival of "the man of wrath," i.e. her unpleasable husband in Elizabeth and her German Garden. I wish I had a garden like that. I've already had a wrathful husband, so I can do without one of those.

Italy, again - (the ancient one, i.e. Rome) with Ovid's Ars Amatoria.

Jul 29, 2011, 1:40 pm

Sweden - The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest and all the other Lisbeth Salander Books. I only wish Stieg Larsson had lived long enough to give us a few more in the series.

Roumania - With The Historian with side trips to Holland. My review was somewhat tepid.

A twofer - Spain & Portugal with Richard Sharpe in Sharpe's Gold and Sharpe's Eagle.

And I forgot Russia with The Golden Cockerel.

I did manage Outlander, so I'll include Scotland.

Hmm, has anyone else had trouble with the World66 map app? Trying to log in and update, but blocked at every turn.

Turkey again or what was previously the Ottoman Empire with The Janissary Tree.

Set 14, 2016, 1:30 pm

Why can't I leave Turkey? Back again with Justinian.

I loved McCarthy's Bar.
