Just joined this group because I have discovered the world of children and young people books.
Overage discoverer at best. Would really like some feedback on a couple of series.
Gregor the Overlander and Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

Welcome aboard, dragonsign. Personally I love the Percy Jackson series. I love that Percy has a magical reason for the trouble he has at school. I love the ancient gods in modern dress, I love the references to old stories.

I especially love Poseidon as a slightly malicious Jimmy Buffett!

Ooh ooh I found two Alfred Hitchcock and the Three Investigators books on my recent trip to Hay on Wye - hooray! Love that series, luckily almost no-one else does so, although they're scarce in the UK, they're not expensive.

Sorry to hijack the thread, just got all over-excited!

My 12 year old son has read the entire series of Gregor, the Overlander and Percy Jackson and The Olympians several times. He also loves the Maximum Ride books by James Patterson.

For a 12 year old boy to re-read anything says something for these 3 series.

Hi
Are there any other series for young people in the same genre as Percy and Gregor that I might be interested in reading?
Any tips are welcome. My grandson isn't old enough for these, but I hope when he is, will enjoy them.

Hello dragonsing,
I responded to your first post a while back --

If that helps :)

Maximum Ride is amazing! It is si-fi and not fantasy. Some good fantasy ones are Artemis Fowl, Septimus Heap,Fablehaven, the Alchemyst (and the rest of the series), the Bartimaeus Trilogy, the Pendragon series, and Dealing with Dragons.

The Alchemyst has mythology like the Percy Jackson's but it has all mythology not just greek.

The Hunger Games is by the same author as Gregor but is very different.

I second this...my middle school boys..from fifth through eighth grade absolutely adore all three of these series as well as the Anthony Horowitz Alex Rider books too.

Is this topic still active. Would like info on the series about Alice in Wonderland, an alternative version.

Thanks

I only have one to go in the Overland and Percy Jackson series, so am looking for some new ones.

I don't know anything about Alice in Wonderland alternative version. But I would highly recommend The Artemis Fowl series, There's always Harry Potter, of course, and my son also enjoyed the Peter and the Starcatchers books although they're geared a little younger I think.

I have The Looking Glass Wars on hold at our Library, but there are a lot of books in this series, I assume. I am not sure in what order they should be read. Any suggestions.

Have been reading the Gatekeeper series. I like it.
Just started the Fablehaven series, and I think it will prove very interesting.
Also looking forward to the next Nicolas Flamel and the Alchemist series. Any more suggestion, let me know.

The Charley Bone series by Jenny Nimmo is good also...I believe the first one is Midnight For Charley Bone

Finally read the Looking Glass Wars.
This is not children's literature. I would say must be like PG rated. Adults will like it. I liked it.

I second the Charlie Bone recommendation--they are wonderful books for anyone who enjoys fantasy with delightfully eccentric characters.

Anyone know where one can find Seeing Redd in the Alice, Looking Glass series?
Can't find it!

The Ranger's Apprentice series by John Flanagan is a good one, and it's still being added to.

This is a great series; must read

I suggest (The Gideon Trilogy). It's got a really interesting plot line, lots of twists and adventure. Not as mythology based as Percy Jackson but still a very good series.

Randompoodle: use Brackets Not parenthesis ( Dang it the brackets disappear

The Gideon Trilogy.

You get the touchstone, as Mud said, by using square brackets which disappear because LT thinks they're being used for a book. If you look to the right of your message area, though, where it says 'Touchstones', it explains which brackets to use and how to use them. ^-^

Seeing if typing only the closing half also vanishes:

ETA: Yep. It does.
