This thread is to accumulate interesting current news references to Lincoln. The first post:

As posted at blog.TheDemocraticdaily.com:

"Bush is taking a shorter vacation this August and AP reports he has a shorter reading list.

"Two of the books were about Republican Party hero Abraham Lincoln — “Lincoln: A Life of Purpose and Power,” by Richard Carwardine, and “Lincoln’s Greatest Speech: The Second Inaugural,” by Ronald C. White Jr.

He probably should read 'Team of Rivals' instead. He might learn that surrounding himself with 'yes-men' and firing anyone who disagrees with him isn't necessarily a good thing.

For those who are interested and have at least basic cable, every Saturday C-Span has programming dedicated to Lincoln and his 200th Birthday. Below is a link to their site. This last Saturday was wonderful. Edna Greene Medford co-author of The Emancipation Proclamation: Three Views had a fantastic interview by Brian Lamb. Frank J. Williams was on a roundtable program discussing Lincoln, Bush and the War powers of the President. It was another fascinating program. Hope this can help/interest someone.
