Hi--Just finished The Blind Assassin and cannot find any discussions of it here. I had some questions & thoughts about it for any fellow readers out there. Any thoughts on how Richard died? The likeliness of Laura committing suicide?

The Blind Assassin is my favorite Atwood, but I think I need to reread it because it's been several years now! Sorry that I have nothing to add to your discussion :(

Hello. I have about 1/4 to go, so I'll be back when I finish. At the point I'm at now, it looks like Laura likely committed suicide and that Richard had a heart attack--but things will probably change, or you wouldn't be asking these questions!

OK, I just finished the book. ** SPOILER ALERT! ** I think that Laura definitely committed suicide--no doubt in my mind after reading about the look on her face at the tea shop and her stopping by to return the house key before driving into the wall. And I think Richard also killed himself. Winifred was the one who passed it to the papers that he was found on the boat in the bay and that he had had a stroke; but clearly he was in the boat in the boathouse, and she was trying to cover something up. How he did it is unclear; do you have any ideas? He was a ruined man, exposed, ashamed, and depressed. I'm betting that Winifred found a suicide note but covered that up, too.

Let me add that although I enjoyed the book overall, I found the embedded sci-fi story really annoying.

Cariola - I felt the same way, although I did enjoy the interaction between the "narrators" of the sci-fi story.

hello, I just finished reading the book and I am confused...

*spoiler alert. Is Laura telling her sister that she had an affair with Richard in order to save Alex? how? Did he (Alex) really meet Laura at some point after fleeing from Avilion?
