I am planning a campus film festival, and I would love to include a Bollywood film. I wanted to use Devdas, but the distributor has been--well, lets just say he isn't returning my calls, and I have to make arrangements by next week, so I'm afraid I'll have to give up on that one.
I've only seen a few other Indian films, and the problem is that, to be honest, I don't think our students would sit through a 3.5-4.5 hour film like Jodhaa Akbar or Lagaan. (I was pushing it with Devdas, but I think the love story and musical numbers might have held their interest.) Are there any out there that run less than three hours that college-age students would enjoy?
Thanks for your help!

It has fun aspects and serious ones. There's a romance too. I loved it. Its available via Netflix.

You could try something like Kuch Naa Kaho or Munnabhai MBBS. They're both long (pretty much all Bollywood films are) but they're comedies so they should keep the interest going. Or there's always Kaante, a Bollywood version of Reservoir Dogs, complete with songs and dances.

I would say Dil Se, but it's still about 3 hours long. Most of them are.

I cried so much watching Kal Ho Naa Ho! So touching. A little geographically incorrect (to a native Queens, NY person, anyway.) A friend of mine met Shah Rukh Khan while they were filming this movie.

Thanks so much, everyone. These are great suggestions. Unfortunately, Kuch Naa Kaho is handled by EROS, the same distributor that has given me such a hard time with Devdas. But I'll be trying my next choice, Kal ho naa ho, which is handled by a different company. Hopefully I'll have better luck.

But why Bollywood, if I may ask? There are good Indian films, too, made by actual filmmakers.

I would have recommended OMKARA, Bollywood's take on OTHELLO, but unfortunately that's Eros-produced too.
KHNH is lots of fun, so hope you can roll with that! Good luck!
