This topic could just make you all think i'm crazy but out of curiousity, do any of you talk for your dogs?
My husband and I can have whole converstions, but with one of us speaking as her. She can be very rude sometimes I must say.

yes I do it too
It confuses people, because I tend to use "I", meaning to speak for my dog, like "I really like it if you pet me" LOL
And at home I talk a lot to the dogs, so does my husband.

So glad I'm not the only crazy person!!! Yes, I admit I will have full conversations with my chihuahua Tizzy, it's just when she needs to talk to other people they have problems understanding and I have to step in. She gives great advice :)

We do this at my house on a daily basis.

Styx wants everyone to know his English is fine, too. He wouldn't need help typing this reply if the keys were a little bigger on the keyboard. As it is, his nose covers about four keys and his tongue is useless since they all taste the same.

Yes, I do this all the time for Skeelo as he speaks very quietly and likes me to speak up for him. And do the rest of you have conversations with your dogs in public paces - eg. while out on a walk? I'm always getting funny looks for strolling along going 'Oh look! Aren't those flowers lovely? Are you going to pee on them? Yes, you are! What a good idea!'

I'm thrilled to see other people admiting to some eccentric quirks regarding their pets. I'M NOT ALONE!!! LOL. I talk to Toto all the time, in private and public. At the park I'm a regular hoot. Its "What a big boy you are, my poochie woochie, Mommy wuvs you. Have fun running and playing wif all your buddies" On our walks I'm like Booksloth chatting him up about all the things we come across. I also admit I sometimes talk "baby talk" I also talk for him, especially when we run into another person with a dog on leash, and we meet and hang out for a little while, when we part ways you'll hear me saying "Toto says bye bye Roscoe, we'll see you again soon, next time we'll play longer and bring our balls"
I just finished a light breezy summer read which is great for all us "Dog Talkers" It's called Walking in circles before lying down by Merrill Markoe. Its about a woman who hears her dog talking to her. She talks back to it (without lips moving, it all takes place in her head) Its pretty funny and very interesting to hear the dialoge she gets from her dog. Her dog named Chuck always seems to think that throwing a ball for him to fetch will make her feel better. You guys should check it out. Again very light reading. Check out my library for jacket cover.

>14 ljreader: lj, Merrill Markoe's What the Dogs Have Taught Me is one of my favorite re-reads. In that book, she conferences with her dogs as to why they have to follow her all the time ("Sometimes I think it might lead to a game of ball"), spends a day living as a dog in her pack ("we all try to catch a fly with our teeth - I am relieved when one of the others is successful"), voices her new dog Lewis's observations ("She has light hair on her head and dark hair on her arms, so I figure she's a mixed breed like I am") - etc etc.
Markoe is David Letterman's ex-girlfriend, and the actual owner of "his" dogs Bob and Stan, who were often mentioned in the early years of the show. She was a writer for the show, as well.
