Can't add 1984 to my library. Too popular?

Since last night I've been unable to add Orwell's 1984 to my books. I tried another, much less popular, book a minute ago and had no trouble.

How did you try to add it?
This is not enough to work on

Searching on 1984, Orwell brings good results from Ohiolink, University of Oxford, Montana Shared Catalog.

There are a lot of other books that match this search. an ISBN searcg will probably not help a lot, as there are too many different editions. If you want your entry to really match your copy you will have to add it manually or do a lot of editing.

>2 MarthaJeanne: I didn't use the Add Books page. I clicked on the green Add Book button on 1984's page and it brings up the usual dialog window but without any cover or info associated.

I see using the older method does work. The misbehaving button/window is odd, though.

There have been other reports of the Add Book button misbehaving. It seems to have something to do with ISBNs and their lack, so yes, the popularity of the book might play a part. But the general rule is, if the Add Book button doesn't work, do it the old way. :-)

>3 x_hoxha: The Add Book button is actually using an ISBN to search Amazon. It doesn't search any other source, unless you go under the advanced button.
If you don't want to use Amazon as your source, I'd suggest using the "Go to Add Books" link under advanced.

This is not entirely true. It prioritizes based on your choice in Other Settings for Quick Add

Lots of books don't have anything but Amazon, so even if you pick Library sources, you may still see a lot from Amazon.

Also, when you click Advanced on the Quick Add popup, you will see choices of sources if there are others. You can see what I got when I did a quick add for 1984.

I never even knew that setting was there! You learn something new every day.

>6 knerd.knitter: I suppose that means almost every book I've searched for with the green button where I DIDN'T go into advanced had no other library sources.
Go figure.
