I read this book in the late 1980s. I don't think it was a new book even then. It was a chapter book for children or young adults. It was written from a dog's point of view. The dog met other dogs and made friends or enemies with them. Near the end of the book the dog lives with a family that had a baby, and the ending of the book suggested the reader was the baby. I wish I could remember more but I'd love to revisit this book!

Is it here?

Not an exhaustive list. If not there it would be on worldcat.org.

Do you recall what the cover looked like? Or dog?

Possibilities:

Zistel: Hi Fella https://openlibrary.org/search?q=Hi+fella+zistel&mode=ebooks&has_fulltex...
(Eliminated, no mention of baby in Hi Fella)

Stoneley: Scruffy https://openlibrary.org/search?q=Stoneley+scruffy&mode=ebooks&has_fullte...

Brink: Spunky https://openlibrary.org/search?q=Dori+brink+spunky&mode=ebooks&has_fullt...
Most likely to be Spunky. Baby is mentioned in the search inside feature on openlibrary. Those books are free to borrow.
