I wanted to share a most singular book project by R.I. Sutton and her Harebrained Press in Australia. In 2016, Ms. Sutton embarked on the process of assembling seven of her published short stories into a remarkable edition. She then spent seven years crafting the book she envisioned almost entirely herself. In addition to having written the stories, she hand-set the type… restored at least one printing press… printed the pages… worked with her partner, Kain White, to create and print illustrations (both cover and for each story)… learned paper marbling to make her own endpapers… hand-bound each volume. Every single step of the book's creation is the direct result of her remarkable artistic vision and hands-on craft. As someone who also creates books, I am truly humbled by the vision, dedication, artistry, craft, and hard graft that went into the creation of this book.

I know that she has a few copies of the deluxe edition (limited to 60 copies) still available. I am just thankful that I was able to reserve a copy of the work by this inspiring book artist.

Her website – https://www.theharebrainedpress.com/ – has a lovely video in which she discussed her journey, as well as many photos of the process.

(Note: The prices are in Australian dollars, not USD.)

>1 AmpersandBookStudio: It’s a fascinating project, for which the proprietor very kindly sent me a handsome prospectus for a while back. While it doesn’t fit into my personal collecting parameters, the magnificent endeavours undertaken are to be applauded and greatly encouraged

Thank you, Tristan for the introduction--and to those who have taken an interest in my project. It's been a long one, but the rewards have certainly outweighed the challenges. I'm pleased to meet others on this forum who are just as enthusiastic about paper, ink, printing methods, binding structures and literature as I am!

A big thank you to those who’ve supported my project and been patient enough to purchase books in spite of the delay. Fortunately, I was able to fulfill orders ahead of time and currently have two of the Classic and two of Deluxe series of ‘Closer than Breathing’ ready for shipping. I have been especially delighted by the response to the deluxe copies, which are almost sold out.

I’m soon to announce the next Harebrained Press book project and wanted to offer the details of the email newsletter ‘Studio News’ if you would like to sign up: http://eepurl.com/dy53KX

Received my red leather deluxe edition today and it is indeed gorgeous.
Arrived in excellent protective packaging.
The only negatives are that there is no title on the edge of the black Solander box, which means it will be anonymous on the shelf, and the box is slightly too large for the book.
Hopefully future editions from this innovative press will correct these minor problem.
The video linked above in >1 AmpersandBookStudio: shows the details of this intensive hand-made project.

>8 wcarter: Thank you for the feedback. I'm so pleased that you're happy with the deluxe edition. I appreciate your thoughts on the Solander box and will definitely take them into account for future editions.
