Hi! I read this book in the 80s but it may have been published in the 70s. It was about a group of teens/tweens who were bored and decided to split into two teams to play a form of hide and seek. One group had to steal something that the adults would miss and the other team had to find it and put it back before the adults noticed it was missing. I believe one team stole a weathervane off the roof of a house or barn and either while stealing or putting it back, one of them gets killed (or badly injured?). I can't remember if there was a cover-up, but at the moment it makes me think of I Know What You Did Last Summer by Lois Duncan.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I haven't read it in years so this might be a long shot, but I thought of The Daring Game by Kit Pearson.

Suddenly just thought of another possibility, which I read even longer ago: The Club by Patricia Aks.

Thank you for the suggestions! I looked up the two books, but don't think they are the one.
Thinking some more about the book, I think it took place in the summer and the kids were taking stuff from one another's houses. I think the ring-leader may have been new in town or was just there for the summer.
I have requested both book suggestions from my library to see if one of them could be it and my recall is incorrect.
Thanks!
