Coupons/ Discounts/ Sales on Bookselling Websites

ThriftBooks have a 15% discount on used books costing $5 and above. Use promo code: HOLIDAY22

T&C: Discount cannot be used on New books, gift cards, shipping, or with any other offer. Sale ends November 27, 2022 at 11:59 PM PST.

Note: ThriftBooks are a mega bookseller, so exercise discretion while reviewing product details. For instance, books listed with an ISBN should be treated as such irrespective of the product photo. Also, avoid listings with watermarked photos as they might be pulled off other sites like Amazon or eBay and most likely do not represent the item for sale. Apart from unusual finds and sometimes unbelievable prices, the main draw would be cheap and flat international shipping rates!

Search Tip: A simple search for "Folio Society" or "Heritage Press" yields thousands of hits. Use the filter on the left column to uncheck 'Show Out Of Stock Items' or check 'Hardcover'. You could then set 'Items per page' to a maximum of 50 listings. Hopefully, this should make your search manageable and deter any agoraphobic tendencies!

Just putting this here because I didn't know where else to put it. I think Folio Society needs some help with the concept of Black Friday. Their version is giving money to charity with every purchase, which of course is lovely, but there's no discount, which is the definition of Black Friday! :-)

Does Biblio ever offer 20% discounts? Maybe on Christmas?

>6 Atheistic: Sadly they all appear to be sold now. It's a shame, $49 CAD = ~$36 USD which seems like a steal!

>6 Atheistic: The edition had already sold out - they did say that these were slightly damaged/dinged copies that were held back as they weren’t thought suitable for sale at full price, which is why they were reduced.

Arion Press is holding a site-wide sale on all of their remaining inventory. Sale began 11/20 and it lasts until 11/30/2022, 11:59 PM PST. Sale is -30% all remaining titles using the promo code 22BOOKSGIVING. Orders can also be placed by phoning directly at 415-668-2542. Titles I especially recommend (in chronological order):

1. Selected Poems by Herman Melville (1995).
2. Paradise Lost by John Milton (2002).
3. Sampler. 200 Poems by Emily Dickinson (2007). The illustrations by world-renowned Kiki Smith are superb and this is, in effect, a livre d'artiste edition.
4. Poetry of Sappho (2011).
5. The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins (2012).
6. What the End is For (2014). A collection of 55 poems by Jorie Graham.
7. The Leopard by Giuseppe di Lampedusa (2014). Illustrated with 32 color photographs taken from the outstanding 1963 motion picture directed by Lucchino Visconti.
8. The Little of Our Earthly Trust (2016). Poetry collection by Elizabeth Bishop.

>4 Lukas1990: "Does Biblio ever offer 20% discounts? Maybe on Christmas?"

It is hard to see that happening. Biblio is similar to abebooks - all of the books on their website are offered for sale by other sellers, and biblio do not sell any books themselves. Their standard cut on a sale is 15%*, so if they offered more than 15% off they would be losing money on every single order.

* Sone sellers actually pay less than 15%, as biblio offer sellers an option to pay a monthly fee plus a lower percentage. Biblio are already absorbing a loss on such sales.

>13 TheEconomist: How could anyone know if they are absorbing a loss on those sales? They'd still get paid if 0 sales went through for that vendor.

But agreed with your other point, they just provide a marketplace, and all the items are owned by individuals or companies that pay to sell there. Not that different from eBay.

Last year before Christmas I received and used an Ebay coupon for a 20% discount (max discount 50$). Any chance Ebay will issue these coupons this year too?
