Lifelong Learning

There is an article in this month's Reader's Digest about a book list a teacher created for students who might not have the opportunity to go on to college. It was thought to be the equivalent of two years of college learning.

I found it interesting to see what was on the list and wondered what would you add or edit?

>1 genesisdiem: Wow, that’s some book list. I can see how the woman took almost a lifetime to get through it - especially if she had to source cheap secondhand copies of each book, in order…
I wonder what books from the intervening years that teacher would have added to her list if she was compiling it now?

Would anyone here have tackled that list? Personally, (though I’ve read a few of the named books), I don’t believe I would - it looks so daunting.

>2 Sergeirocks: I might have tried.... I can't refuse a challenge...but I don't think I would have been very successful.

>3 Carol420: I think you’d have to be very single-minded and focused to achieve this, Carol. As I say - very daunting.

Going over the list, 75 of them were assigned to me when I was in school (over 4 yrs HS, 6 yrs Uni). When I cross-posted this link in another group, most of the responses were about how outdated the list was... and I have never felt older... :)

Wow, that's quite a list. I remember reading some in elementary school, many in high school, and some in high school. Some assigned (Catcher in the Rye) and some piqued my interest (The Once and Future King). I am glad this list compiler kept an open mind about what she chose.

>6 genesisdiem: Outdated, eh? Well, older is often wiser ;)
