Which character to start sorting from when you order your catalog alphabetically.
It allows the system to skip an article for example - so “The Book” gets sorted with the Bs and not with the Ts (5 will skip 4 characters; if the value is empty, it will sort with the Ts). It mostly works automatically for English - it gets set when you add the book (unless you edit a title after you add the book - the. You may need to adjust it) but for other languages where the articles are before a word, it is usually needed (die is an article in German (so you want to skip it) but the system cannot just skip all “die” because it is a normal word in English).

>2 AnnieMod: Ah! Thank you, I will have to double check some books as I have in fact edited some titles.

When I select "sort from (start)" (no article at the beginning of the title), I've noticed that it never "sticks", if I close the book edit page and then open it again, the field is always empty.
Field empty = sort from start? (So there's no need for me to manually select it every time?)
Thanks

>4 Moloch: Yes. Empty, 0 (when this could be set) and (start) do the same thing - start with the first character.

>4 Moloch: Yes, if nothing is chosen it sorts from start too, no need to select unless you need to change from some number assigned automatically
