It was about a young boy who accidentally traveled to another dimension and/or time and when he arrived home at the end, he had been erased from his life, and then his whole life was based on travel. It was a series and in one he traveled to a water world. He has to change clothes when he travels and he meets someone who keeps a stash of clothes belonging to that place or time.
I read this about 5 years ago and do not know when it was published, but it was not too recent.
The book's intended audience is definitely middle schoolers.
From what I remember, the main character also had a sister, who forgot about him at the end of the first book. I only read probably the first 3 or 4, but it has been killing me over the past few days that I cannot figure out what it was called.
