Similar quality/price to folio?

I love my fine press books, but they’re expensive.

I’m trying to slowly replace my favorite standard hardcover books with folios and, when not available, at least Easton press, library of America, etc.

Any similar publishers?

That really depends on the types of books you want to replace. There are specialty publishers in some genres, some authors have good academic publishers runs and some runs need to be cobbled together by chasing down multiple publishers.

You are looking for sewn in, durable paper hardcovers, right? :)

For classics, you may want to look at the Limited Editions Club - even if they have been out of business for awhile, some of theirs are still the best copies out there (and Easton Press uses their designs a lot (theirs and Heritage Press’s).

So it will really come down to which books you are trying to replace. :)

I really like the Limited Editions Club editions. The paper always has great texture and the slipcases are very sturdy. Often the slipcase will have the title so, while it faces out and takes any sun fading, the book itself is in pristine condition. They are (mostly) surprisingly cheap on abe and ebay. I keep expecting the prices to jump up so look for the titles you want before everyone catches on...

Most of the LEC editions we're also published in slightly lower quality unlimited editions by The Heritage Press. In my view, HP titles are of a broadly comparable quality to Folio (perhaps even superior when looking at the HP books published in New York rather than Connecticut). I agree with >5 PartTimeBookAddict: that LECs often look under-priced, but HP books are invariably scandalously cheap.
