Hey, all,
My "Members with your books" hasn't updated in at least a couple of weeks. I've been keeping a close eye on it, so I'm sure it's stayed the same. Could anyone give it a nudge or is this happening elsewhere? Someone else mentioned it in Talk About LT but maybe it's more widespread than just us two?
Thanks -- Susan

I haven't really noticed, but I'll try to keep an eye on it for a while. (There should have been minor differences with some of my fellow art historians).

>1 susanbooks: Like Nicole, I have not noticed this myself, with my own profile. I will keep an eye on it, to see if I can observe the same thing.
A number of LT staff are out this week, but I have made a note that this should be looked at.

I thought this felt like an old bug resurfacing. There's a whole bunch of threads from back in 2011-2014 related to MWYB not updating correctly. Here's one of the main ones:

Thanks for responding, everyone.
My MWYB remains unchanged.
>4 gilroy: Yeah, this happens every so often. I usually ignore it bc it generally fixes itself after a week or so. I'm kind of obsessed with MWYB, constantly checking it for libraries I can get reading ideas from, so I notice.

I was coming to report this as well. I also noticed that all libraries with more than 20,000 books have disappeared from my MWYB list.
7Nicole_VanK
No changes. Okay, I didn't expect the order to change, but the numbers should have
8susanbooks
Thanks, everyone, for checking your lists. Mine, too, remains unchanged.
9susanbooks
I'm making this an official bug now.
10jjwilson61
What do you mean? How was it not an official bug before?
11susanbooks
Oh, okay, my mistake.
12susanbooks
I guess I figured the bug was closed or not yet official since we hadn't had any word about it. My MWYB remains unchanged.
13gilroy
>12 susanbooks: Well, a member of staff commented on it in >3 AbigailAdams26: and there is nothing in the right hand column that says either closed or fixed. So the bug is still open and waiting for them to act.
15timspalding
Okay, it's updating again. If you don't see a change, wait a day or two.
16susanbooks
Still no update
17casvelyn
Mine updated at some point today. Or at least I noticed it today, it could have happened yesterday.
18susanbooks
That's weird. Maybe I'll be lucky tomorrow.
19timspalding
Yeah, it's effectively counting upwards in book count. It's currently at 1829. Casvelyn has 1,556.

>19 timspalding: Ohhhhhhh, I wonder if that explains my other MWYB bug? I never thought about it processing people by number of books cataloged.
A few months back a bunch of people who had been on my MWYB list (raw numbers) for years disappeared. None of them seemed to have removed a bunch of books from their catalog, and I didn't remove any from mine. The only common thread I found (and I checked every correlation I could think of) was that everyone who went missing had over 20,000 books cataloged. Everyone who remained had less than 20,000 books.
I wonder if MWYB gets stuck or stops counting at 20,000? And that's why it quits updating, because it's still stuck at 20,000 from the last time it tried to update? Because the last time mine updated was when I reported this bug in April: https://www.librarything.com/topic/331439#n7484653 and you went in and messed with it to get it going again. Which, actually that would mean the 20,000+ book people likely disappeared about the same time you moved MWYB to the new server.
Just speculating, I know almost nothing about under-the-hood computer-y programming stuff.

>20 casvelyn:
Yes and no. It calculates everyone one at a time. But indeed, it does have hard-wired code not to include people over 20,000 books. (The 20k people themselves connect to others, but people with fewer books are not connected to them in reverse. Everyone's list is different; it's not a single grid, in part because it's not about numbers, but factors in obscurit, etc.)
The 20,000 book thing is a protective of sorts. Matching people against mammoth libraries takes a lot more time, and consumes more memory. I suspect it was erroring out over them. Also, even if this weren't true, a high percent of 20k+ libraries are junk, mistakes or institutions. At that scale, people have a very different connection to their books, if they have one at all. It might be good to include them somehow, but, for now, 20,000 is a ceiling--at least for you.

>21 timspalding: Aww, I thought I was being all deductive. :(
I kind of liked having the institutions on my list, but I'm a sucker for weird niche special interest collections. And privately-held public-ish libraries. But yeah, I'm pretty sure some of the bigger libraries were the result of import weirdness and other issues. Or there's just people out there who have a LOT of duplicate books.

>23 surly: See >19 timspalding:, I suspect it hasn't reached your book count yet. Thanks for your patience!

My Mwyb 'Recent' has still not changed but my Charts & Graphs did update yesterday. According to the latter, I now have one book. I wonder where the other 5,659 went? :)
26timspalding
You have lots of books https://www.librarything.com/stats/surly/overview
28susanbooks
Still waiting for mine to change.

>28 susanbooks: It probably hasn't reached your # of books, yet, but I'll see if maybe timspalding can give an update on where it's at, now.

Thanks, >29 kristilabrie:. Still no change as of now.

It's back! Thank you!
