Found: Sea Captain Searches for Shadow in Davy Jones' Locker

This is a children's picture book which I can pinpoint reading in 1970 at the latest, so most likely mid to late 60s. At a guess I'd say it might well be Australian (although I'm in the UK). The title describes it, really; this Captain loses his shadow somehow, & among other places he searches for it in Davy Jones' Locker. I've been looking for it for a good few decades, without success — which surprises me! I would have thought it would be quite easy to find… (I'm talking about the book, here; not the shadow!)

Possibly The Adventures of Mr. Hero by Roberta Leigh.

So far, whenever I've found a book I remember, it's been exactly as I described it — but "Mr.Hero" is nothing like my recollection; and yet I have a strange feeling you may be quite right. Okay… it's here, & I've read it. I definitely remember some of the images (although only a few!), & I have to conclude that by Occam's Razor this must be the book in question. Thanks again, Nerilka!

Memory is a funny thing, sometimes completely accurate, sometimes conflating elements from a couple of books or perhaps with imagined scenes from a story that captured their fancy.
