I am looking for the name of a book that is a historical fiction. It begins in modern times, and then flashes back the late 1800s. The modern people are the descendants of the ones in the late 1800s. They find a centennial button among some of the belongings of their ancestors. The books goes back and forth at times between the past and the present.

In the 1800s, it follows the progress of a young girl who leaves the home of her indifferent father. Her mother died giving birth to her, and her father becomes very cold and distant towards her. She lives in a brothel for a short time, and eventually leaves and becomes a seamstress. She falls in love and becomes Christian. She writes to her brother and helps him find Christ.

I believe this was written in the 1980s or 1990s.

I believe this was written in the 1980s or 1990s. On the cover was a young woman with her hair up in a bun (you can't see it) and to the right of her is a man with a moustache in a brown suit I believe. The cover is illustrated.

I believe that the group of people in contemporary times were three main characters. There was an older woman, and a young lady (her neighbor I believe). The older woman was in danger of losing her home and the young neighbor was trying to help her out by trying to get in touch with her grandson (great nephew?) who loved to travel around. Finally, he shows up and promises to help out his grandma (great aunt?). The young neighbor begins to fall for the young man, but is really scared at how quickly she is falling for him. The older woman tells her how she had fallen in love with her husband after only a few days, and how they were married two or three weeks later.

The book cover's style reminds me of All Together in One Place by Jane Kirkpatrick.

The book cover, I believe, looked like it had the color's of a sunset behind a set of buildings. I think the buildings were silhouetted.

I think I found it: Sarah's Patchwork by Stephanie Grace Whitson.

I looked at the sequels, and it's Norah's Ribbon of Memories! Thank you so much!
