Recent eruption of streaming services opening new worlds

The number of streaming services has grown in recent years as an alternative to cable or satellite services. The idea is that the consumer can pick and choose what they want as long as they have a good Internet connection. They also allow the consumer to enjoy programming on devices other than their home TV. With the pandemic preventing folks from enjoying movies at a theater, they also allow viewing of new releases, often with no extra charge to their basic subscription. Netflix and other services have brought original content to their consumers. Binge watching series has become commonplace.

What I have enjoyed most about Netflix (arguably the largest and best stocked service) is the inclusion of series taking place in other countries. I have really become bored with American series.

I have always loved the BBC series presented on our PBS network but Acorn and Britbox make these and many more series available along with series from other English speaking nations. I recently enjoyed a series from Australia, "Mystery Road", and still love watching the very saucy "Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries".

French series have caught my interest since they tickle my elementary knowledge of the language and French is like music to my ears. "Call My Agent" took me to a new world of a talent agency in Paris.

"Midnight Diner" is a very low key series taking place in a late-night diner in Tokyo. Patrons come in to enjoy the limited fare and interact with other patrons. The owner of the diner is like a father/mediator/confidant/message deliverer as well as chef.

"Criminal" is an intriguing series. Each season takes place in a different European country but in the same generic interrogation room. Great twists.

If any of you watch TV, what type of programming do you enjoy? I would be most interested in your recommendations. Do you find yourself exploring the world on your TV?

BTW - There is an app called Justwatch that allows you to search for a movie or series and find out if and where you can watch it.

Explanation: My eyes have become less able to enjoy print for more than a few minutes at a time thus I spend more time watching TV and listening to audio books.
