Very interesting. This reminds of what I read once, that the so-called "Huns" were not all ethnically the same central Asian group we associate with Attila and his clan. Many in the Hunnish hordes were Alans, Goths, Scythians, Sarmatians, etc who had been incorporated into the armies and society of their conquerors.

I don't think the lack of ethnic homogeneity in Scandinavian contexts is exactly surprising given their love of taking slaves from the communities they raided.
