A historical romance set in England and Scotland(I think)

There's a woman whose husband had died ( I think for a while now) and she's being forced to marry her husband brother or something so that she can have a male child for her husband. She has a female child though. The woman refused, I don't know how she did it, but she ran away to another country(?) and lied to the people there that she's the wife of their lord, who went to war and everyone believed he died there. The people accepted her. Later, the lord came back to find a wife, one that he knew he never married, which made him very suspicious of the woman. The man was a Scottish lord, that I remembered.
