I know there are other topics and problems in the world apart from book buying. But I refuse to restrict myself in these times. Book buying keeps me sane. :)
In our holidays I had the opportunity to visit my favourite small indie bookstore in the world several times - I browsed for hours and - of course - bought a ton of books (some in English, some translated into German).
Here's what I brought home from vacation (end of August - first week of September):
Alex Bell - Dark Charm (Music and malice in Hurricane Town)
Sally Rooney - Normal people
Anna Burns – Milkman
Clarissa Goenawan – The perfect world of Miwako Sumida
Sy Montgomery – Rendezvous mit einem Oktopus (The soul of an Octopus)
Tilman Spreckelsen – Die Nordseefalle (The North Sea trap)
Ben Clanton – Narwal-Das Einhorn des Meeres (Narwhal: Unicorn of the sea)
Morten A. Stroksnes – Das Buch vom Meer (Shark drunk: the art of catching a large shark from a tiny rubber dinghy in a big ocean)
Colin Cotterill – Dr. Siri und die Geisterfrau (The woman who wouldn't die)
Kosmos: Welches Sternbild ist das? (Kosmos field guide: What constellation is this?)
André Aciman – Ruf mich bei deinem Namen (Call me by your name)
Shari Lapena – The couple next door
S. K. Tremayne – Just before I died
Riley Sager – Verschließ jede Tür (Lock every door)

I wandered into a thrift store today and bought The World of Jewish Desserts for $1. I’m not Jewish but I few years ago I got The Jewish Princess Cookbook from the early reviewers program. One of the best cookbooks ever. Every recipe was great. So I figured I would give desserts a whirl.

After reading a review of A Solitary Man on another thread I went over and purchased a Kindle copy of it. Sounds like it should be good!

On last Saturday, September 12th, I bought at my local bookstore:
Bunny by Mona Awad
Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie
and a non-fiction about book publishing :)

Because things are horrible in many categories:
* Rage by Bob Woodward
* The No Asshole Rule: Building a Civilized Workplace and Surviving One that Isn't by Robert I. Sutton
I also ordered:
* The Asshole Survival Guide: How to Deal with People Who Treat You Like Dirt by Sutton
and
* Working with You Is Killing Me: Freeing Yourself from Emotional Traps at Work by Katherine Crowley & Kathi Eister

I visited an antique mall yesterday and found a Swiss book in German published during the war Klassische Plastik der Griechen Classic Statuary of Greece. It was only $2.50 so I thought it was cool.
Also found The Traveling Man: the Journey of Ibn Battuta Which was a children’s book. It had gray illustrations and I was a history major with a penchant for antiquarian travelogues.
I also picked up Million Dollar Mermaid which it turns out I already had so it’s going on Bookmooch.

>6 Yuki_Onna: And those are just the books I'm buying. You should see my library list. Job hunting (just in case I get up off my own *ss), resumes, and more about toxic coworkers.
One that I might add to my purchases is The Bully at Work by the Namies. There are 2 managers at work, both male, who find it acceptable to bully subordinates. One awful manager in the store was horrible; now that there are two, that might not be survivable. I'll have to see what happens.
And, yes, when it comes to democracy in many parts of the world and in the US in particular, things do look bad. Fascism & white supremacy are raising their very ugly heads again. And people are voting for it. The strongman belongs in the circus, but is ending up in the house of government instead. We need to elect people who are worthy of emulation, and instill a desire to emulate those worthy of it in the populace.
And R.I.P. Ruth Bader Ginsburg, you will be missed.
