Hey gang, hope everyone is keeping safe and taking necessary precaution.

Would any of you recommend China Miéville's work?

I am personally looking into The Scar and Iron Council. Would you recommend either?

I liked China's Bestiary from the CP but wasn't a big fan of Railsea (SP edition), not familiar with The Scar and Iron Council. I would suggest you read something from the library before making a purchase.

I think The Scar is a great starting point for his work. It's a sequel to Perdido Street Station (as is Iron Council), but it works completely as a standalone novel. I think it's his most fun book. The City and the City is also highly recommended.

Someone asked the same question a few weeks ago so you may want to check the answers there as well for a few more ideas: https://www.librarything.com/topic/316461 :)

I have always found Mieville to be one of the best writers who has yet to write a great book. Obviously, that's just my opinion, but I've always found his plots/characters don't live up to his world-building and concept. I think King Rat is the most enjoyment I've gotten from one of his books, although both it and Unlundun felt like not-as-good version of Neverwhere. I keep going back to him, because I keep expecting him to blow me away.
