Multiple Copies of a book & TinyCat

Nov 28, 2019, 4:08pm

Is there a way to have TinyCat recognize the "number of copies" information from a book's information page? I've got a classroom library that has many multiple copies of certain books, and my students use TinyCat to check books out of the library.

So far I've just been putting duplicate entries into Library Thing, a separate entry for each copy I have. This is cumbersome for a number of reasons. It's not so bad when I have 2 or 3 copies, but in some cases I have 15 or so (27 copies for one book). It takes a while to input that many duplicate entries, and hard to see how many I really have once they're in. It also makes editing books (to add my classroom library's Call Numbers, or to add tags to the books) difficult because I have to repeat a single edit X times.

I've seen the "number of copies" information on the Library Thing book information pages, but I can't get TinyCat to recognize the number of copies. It treats a single entry as a single book regardless the number of copies listed, which means different students wouldn't be able to check out the same title at the same time, and they would have no way of even knowing there even are more than one copy of certain titles.

Is there a step I'm missing? Or is there another work around that would let me have one catalog entry per TITLE, but have TinyCat show how many copies of a title exist (and how many are checked out vs. available)?

Thanks to anyone who has a solution!

I don't use TinyCat, but I noticed there's a group dedicated to it on here:

I hope that helps!
