This weird little book was on a lot of “best of” lists for 2018; that fact plus the intriguing title was enough for me to pick it up at my local bookstore. Set in Lagos, Nigeria, My Sister, the Serial Killer is exactly what the title promises. The narrator’s stunningly beautiful sister has a nasty habit of killing her boyfriends, and then calling her sister to help clean up the mess. So when the love of the narrator’s life is interested in her sister, what’s a girl to do?

Though this novel wouldn’t make my “best of” list, I did read it in only two sittings. It was engaging, fast-paced, and darkly comic.

I really enjoyed this story. It’s a quick and easy read about a young woman who literally cleans up the mess her sister makes of her life and her lovers. Despite the dark subject it is light and funny and bittersweet. It is definitely highly original.
