FYI, if you don't already know about it. Excellent site for purchasing e-downloads of audiobooks at deeply discounted prices: classics, many mysteries of all kinds, thrillers, literary novels, romances, and even Shakespeare plays, to name a few categories. Price range $0.99 - $4.99. No membership fee.

I've purchased Collette's La Vagabonde, narrated beautifully by Johanna Ward, also Richard III from the Folger Shakespeare Library, and am listening to Thomas Hardy's Under the Greenwood Tree, exquisitely narrated by Richard Hardy of PBS TV series, All Creatures Great and Small.

So far, each audiobook recording has been unabridged. And I've been delighted with each purchase.

>1 Limelite: I've bought several audio books from Chirp, and have been really happy with them. There are some great bargains to be had. The only downside for me is you have to either use their website or their app to listen to books. Only my phone will support Chirp's app, and I'm not fond of using my phone for books. But you can either stream or download.

Agreed, I feel the same about phone listening. There are issues with the site: Can't wish-list books; can't archive "read" books; can't catalogue or categorize library contents. Can only order and pay for one selection at a time. I've msg'd them about the drawbacks, get prompt and polite replies but no indication that they plan to rectify. Wonder if there are agreements with the publishers that inhibit, or if their servers aren't capable of heavy user interface/interaction.

Fortunately, Chirp works great with Android devices and Windows OS (computer). I enjoy listening while doing things on my laptop -- like typing posts to LT!

The other good thing is that Chirp clearly indicates in the blurb if a selection in unabridged. And their daily email notifications of specials and when those offers expire is a boon.

>4 Limelite: I agree with you about the shortcomings. It would be nice to be able to put books in a cart, and maybe even get a reminder before they expire. I haven't contacted the company, but it's nice that you've had responses, even if they haven't been encouraging.

For anyone interested, offers are good only for a certain number of days, which varies by book, but once you buy the book, it stays in your library and you can listen to it at any time.

Two things, it's practically a just-getting-started online retailer. So, international expansion may be iin their future; secondly, there may be copyright restrictions imposed by publishers on where books can be sold. Even tree books are subject to those kinds of limits on sales.

It's hared to imagine that similar business plans wouldn't be a success in (English speaking) locations beyond the USA. Have you hunted through the Internet? A good search engine for such a task might be. . .
