Who are your favourite Dr Who villains

One group of dodgy intergalactic dudes I recall from my childhood were the Ice Warriors. They appeared like craggy bipedal retiles made out of rock (to my young eyes) and spoke in strange `obscene phone caller` voices. I was very fond of them, and feel they should be brought back.

I quite liked the "Earth Reptiles" in Blood Heat and Bloodtide though they weren't terribly impressive in Warriors of the Deep. I only know The Silurians and The Sea Devils from the Target novelizations so I'm looking forward to the forthcoming Monsters on Earth CD tin.

I don't think the new series needs to bring back old enemies each season, but given the Earth-centric focus of the new series I'm sure the "Earth Reptiles" could be the basis of a good season-long arc with encounters at several points in history.

I actually think the new series should avoid bringing back old monsters too much. The updated Daleks were great and the updated Cybermen so-so, but I think it should probably go no further, or at least not without thinking it through.

I hear the Master is making a comeback this season.....

I would love to see the Master make a return as part of a wider story arc exploring what happened with the Time Lords, but casting would be very important. He would need to be formidable and not a caricature.

I'd love to see Alan Rickman as The Master.

My least favourite villain is Russell T. Davies. I had high hopes when DW came back but they have been well and truly dashed.

Can I ask what it is about the new series you dislike? Do you post on the Outpost Gallifrey website?

I think the disappointment with the Davies Dr Who could be simply stated as 'Davies may be a good writer but he's a bad sf writer, and so are most of his friends'. (Don't get me started on the Dr being the last of the Timelords - since Timelords can travel in time every timelord could be in existence at any one time).

Under Davies DW has lost too much sense of wonder, mystery. Really what Davies wanted to do was explore DW from the point of view of the assistant,which is fine but it means that the actual story, the doctor, etc, is too often in the background. I'm tired of this "will-they-won't-they" thing that keeps dragging through the series, the Doctor 'in love' with the assistant. The whole Rose and her family thing was done to again, resurrected, and then done to death again.

Another issue is that each episode is roughly 37 mins long, after credits and coming next week. This always seems to involve a few jokes at the beginning, lots of running about, and then the Doctor using his sonic screwdriver to save the day. Where's the storyline development? (The occasional 2-parter has worked well but too many of the single episodes just elicit a "so what").

It would be nice to visit a different planet, a different culture once. I'm beginning to think the TARDIS should now be the TARDI since it no longer seems to travel in space.

And what is this, must do episode in which the Dr meets someone famous fetish?

It could be argued that this incarnation of DW is aimed at children but that doesn't mean that it has to childish. DW used to be uniquely British, quirky and interesting, now it looks like a transatlantic mess, and not a patch on the best sf/fantasy from the US.

I'll second the "sonic screwdriver saves the day" complaint - it bugged me back in Tom Baker's day and it is now souped-up enough to deal with almost any threat. :(

I miss the longer stories of the 'classic series' but I like the energy of the new format. More two-parters would be nice but that doesn't seem to be the way TV is made now - are there any other episodic series around that *regularly* feature multi-part stories?

would I sound rather mundane if I said my faves were: the Master and Daverous and his Dalek army?

I also like the Pirate Captain and his Polli-whatsit robot parrot from the Pirate Planet.

my least is the Abzorbaloff yes I enjoyed the episode but he was just ew.

the Doctor has met historic characters before the new series is not the first to do it and about RTD some episodes of him where great some so so.

The cybermen always scare me the most.

Having recently watched "The Happiness Patrol" I found myself quite liking the Kandyman.

He kills people with sweets! You don't get much better than that.
