On the news just now the finding of some magnificent ruins including mosaic flooring and gold ring found in a drain of a roman house in the center of Rome. Doesn't seem as if the finding has stopped the work on the metro and all objects will be moved to museum housing in the city. Something to follow.

Seems to me that one cannot turn a spade of earth in Rome* without making archeological discoveries. Not surprising, I guess. My house was built in 1926 and I can't dig in the backyard without finding marbles. Poor kids were probably devastated when they lost them, but their loss is my happy discovery.

Edited to show the city referred to in the OP. I must pay attention. I must pay attention....

Honestly, is there a metro stop in Rome that doesn't have ruins under it? And this isn't the first time ruins were found at this particular metro stop.

I was in Rome in April and everywhere there is history. Such an interesting city.
