I think I'm supposed to be selecting for fyrefly - how about The Paradise War (Song of Albion, Book 1 in my mind one of Lawhead's best works. But I'm always curious as to how others view this.

I finished A Natural History of Sex this afternoon, after substantial holiday-related delay. The review is here. I was probably a little harsher on it than I might have been if it weren't my area of specialization, but it just didn't hold up to comparison with other similar books I've read.

Unfortunatly I wasn't able to finish it despite my best efforts. I hope I was able to effectively explain my reasons in my review which surprisingly is incredibly long considering I only read 150 pages of the book. I should have known I was in trouble when the author described the heroine as smelling like sex which she further described as being (excuse the language) warm and pissy (as in urine). No joke really.

So Carmellunacy, how about you read and review Love:A Users Guide: A novel of Romance with Attitude by Clare Naylor. It looks like it would be light and fun.

Heisenberg Probably Slept Here is read and reviewed. I studied physics in college, so none of the science was revelatory but I think they did a good job of laying it out. The biographic aspect was well done--I never realized how big a role WWII played in the lives of major physicists.

ejd - I have to admit I was conflicted. It looks like you have some interesting books, but I felt guilty asking you to review something really heavy. I tried to split the difference with In the Beginning: A New Interpretation of Genesis.

As usual, I've got "on deck" and "unread" tags, and also "888" which is my reading challenge for the year.

Well, I think I'm finally going to jump in now that I've got my head above water with grading!

Xicanti, I know it's marked as reference, but even if you just read portions and browse through, I'd really love to know what you think of The Unicorn by Nancy Hathaway, so I'm hoping you won't mind reviewing that one. It's been on my TBR pile for a long time now, and I think I've never gotten around to it because the last book on myths and legends I read just wasn't all that entertaining. I need to read this one though--people know me so well, I've gotten four copies for birthday/Christmas over the last few years which I've regifted or taken to the local used book shop!

As for me, my library is fairly self-explanatory. If it's got stars marked, it's got a review, and I've read it. Most of the books I've read and own are still in storage, so I'd say 4/5ths of my library hasn't been read or reviewed yet. My only request: please don't pick one of the Norton Anthologies (or any of the other thousand page anthologies I've collected for lit. classes)! They'll get read eventually, but in bits and in pieces...

Whitewavedarling - I saw that you have the novelization of The Adventures of the Librarian and remember having watched the movie with Noah Wylie. I also remember thinking at the time there seemed to be a bit missing and that reading the novelization would be fun. So, that would be my suggestion.

For myself, it has been a very long while since I've posted here. I've been feeling pretty sheepish because I just couldn't finish the last book assigned to me which was Love in the Time of Cholera. However, with a bit of encouragement, I've decided to post a review on what I was able to read and hope that it is still okay to ask for another book? My tbr pile is filled with books which are very different than what I usually read so I hope no one is offended if I don't like a book that is chosen for me.

#155 jesslyn, it is to my shame that I've never read The Princess Bride. I have the movie script and a few copies of the film which are fairly worn though. I have cheated a bit and scanned Don Quixote again in order to write the review. As it is a bit of a cheat, and thus not true to the honour of the knight, I'll do you another one for free.

My library isn't so neatly organized (yet, anyway). I read mostly from the library, so anything tagged "on hold" is something I don't have access to yet. Everything else is fair game, and the "currently reading" and "tbr" tags are books I have here.

Kirconnell, I'd love to know what you think of Heaven Lake by John Dalton--there are two reviews up, but they're short and don't really say much beyond what I could gather from the book jacket. It's been on my TBR pile for a while, but for whatever reason I keep passing it over (maybe because it's on a top shelp above my head I'm realizing now...).

As for me, I've read and posted a review of Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami and I truly enjoyed it. I don't often reread books, but I feel sure I'll reread this one in the future. Simple and sweet story with absolutely beautiful writing, and memorable characters and situations. One to read, keep, and reread if you get around to it. I should say though--based on my experiences, it is wholly different from Murakami's other work. But, just as worthwhile.

For anyone picking for me, anything unreviewed is also unread and up for requests. Please do avoid the huge anthologies (like Nortons!) as those will get read eventually, but in pieces considering their weight and tiny writing. For now, I'm off to start packing for a big move I've got coming up next month...

Not sure how hard/easy it is to review a graphic novel but Gaiman typically rocks my socks off and that's one of his that I'm unfamiliar with. Dear belll7 (from post 234): I just joined both LibraryThing and this group. I'd like you to read John Steinbeck's OF MICE AND MEN, from your "to read" tag. I first read this book in high school, and, well, enjoyed is the wrong word for this kind of book, but I do love it. Then I discovered that it was one of the books I could choose as part of my curriculum as a 9th grade English teacher. I taught the book for about 7 years, and both I and my 9th graders loved it. I'd be really interested in your review of it. We seem to share a love of Tolkien and Austen, by the way.

As far as my own reviews go, would the person picking for me please also pick one of the TO BE READ books?
