Same book in multiple FL series

Hello fellow FL admirers. FL has issued certain books multiple times in different series. If you know these different editions, how will you rate them? I will start off with the following three books:

Gulliver's Travels (3 versions):
* 100 Greatest (1974): Very distinctive design with superb gilt pattern. The leather is prone to become dull over time. Profusely illustrated. The font and overall typography has an antique look to it.
* Stories of the Greatest Authors (1977): The green leather looks really nice and highlights the gilt. I also like the illustrations a bit better than 100 Greatest (but less in number). The font is a bit more modern, and hence more readable than the 100 Greatest. Overall probably my favorite version.
* Great Books of the Western World (1982): Beautiful red leather. My favorite of the three in terms of cover decoration, but I have a weakness for red leather. The typography is the most modern looking and elegant of the three. The illustrations are the least interesting of the three though.

Collected Stories of Katherine Anne Porter (2 versions):
* Pulitzer Prize Edition (1976): Classy blue leather. Very distinctive paper (pure white as compared to the usual cream paper favored by FL). The drawings really stand out against that background.
* Stories of the Greatest Authors: Beautiful brown leather with a leaf gilt pattern. The inside is stunning. The same leaf pattern in used in a brown shade. The illustrations are also done in the same tint. While the Pulitzer Prize edition is beautiful in its own right, this version surpasses that inside (I slightly prefer the blue leather over brown).

Great Expectations (2 versions):
* 100 Greatest (1982): Both the blue leather and the design inside has a modern, elegant look. I am not a great fan of the illustrations though (In Dickens, I prefer the 19th century style illustrations like Phiz).
* Best Loved Books (1977): The red leather is not only more eye catching, the leather itself is thicker thank the 100 Greatest. Somehow I feel that with FL, the older the better. Also, the pages have large margins with less text per page than 100 Greatest, so the book is thicker. The illustrations are really nice. Overall, I prefer this version to the 100 Greatest.

I have not seen the various editions but Franklin made some spectacular books. In terms of preference : Oxford full leather, GBWW, series such as 100 Greatest, American, short stories, etc.

I'm trying to choose between the different editions of Henry James' The Ambassadors. My impression is that the 100 greatest series is often praised, but I ended up picking up the 20th century greatest version instead. I just prefer the illustration to the photos in the latter edition. Does anyone know these editions and how do you rate them?

The two most spectacular series published by FL are undoubtedly the great Books of the Western World (GBWW) and the Oxford full leather set. Be careful about the Oxford set, though, because they also published a similar set in faux leather without the ribbon marker.

I have only one duplicate title, the “Brothers Karamazov.” The Oxford edition has a more attractive binding, but the GBWW edition has a plusher leather and a slightly larger font. Both have attractive, though different, illustrations. It’s tough to choose a favorite.

>4 jroger1: I'm quite unfamiliar with the GBWW series, I will keep that in mind next time I come across one! I'm a bit surprised to hear about the faux leather with ribbon marker. Every place I've looked at has said that ribbons are only on leather bound copies. Certainly room there for mistakes as you said :/

>5 Lilysfx:
The faux leather copies do not have ribbon markers. Many sellers can’t tell the difference between real leather and faux leather (or don’t want to tell you), so always ask if an Oxford/Franklin or a Franklin Mystery has the marker.

>6 jroger1: Ahh I misread what you wrote. I have made one or two purchases at very low price thanks to that ribbon tip.
