What "types" have you been attracted to romantically and why?

Mostly NT's - I think there is a mental connection on the N side, and I dont know why for the T.

I really understand the connection to NT's. Apparently NT's also feel a strong connection to NF's. My best friend at the university is a NT: I depend on her to clarify otherwise muddy fields of experience for me; she depends on me to help her to be tactful and responsive to others' feelings. All the male teachers that I loved in college were NT's. However, I married an Artisan. He keeps me connected to the external world, helps me to observe, shows me how to play, and helps me not to take myself too seriously. He understands the sensory nature of the world and participates in it (whereas I most often dwell in my own inner world).

I once dated an ESTP (the 'entertainer', I think) for seven years. Verbal ability, amazing comic timing, and occasional bursts of ingenuity or euphoria were appealing. Otherwise, and at close quarters, it was a terrible mis-match. The roller-coaster of emotion and performance was exhilarating but also deeply unsettling. In a man so angry, it was also frightening. I hoped he'd keep me tethered to the world of less bookish people, and to externals, in a positive way. Unlike Theresa's husband, though, the manner was destructive - perhaps mutually.

But problems beyond personality type may be to blame.

Sadly, he could play TO a crowd, but rarely WITH anybody. I like to play, converse, debate, and joke WITH others.

I'm often attracted to NTs, in fiction or reality, if they're not too disconnected from human relationships, or human value. Total emphasis on the sciences, say, has never enticed me. Give me a professor over a lab-bound scientist any day! ;)

NFs, if they're not too far from the NT border, appeal also. - Which may be why a boyfriend who is bewilderingly borderline between them is also, for me, perfect and not to be parted with. The mental and emotional connection runs very deep. Most likely, he's an INTJ or INTP.

As far as the T... I like (enjoy, and admire) people who think. As with Captain Picard (of whom I was reminded, today), or professors I have loved, I like said gentleman's logic and rigor and sensitivity.... even if I sometimes think, on a given issue, my own logic is running truer. The thinking focus picks up on my own thinking, my own concern for mental seriousness and play; but is steadier, stronger, complemented by what I can offer. Sometimes my thought - or intuition - is more flexible, though I find he adds surprising insights about people, often. It's pleasurable and rich. I can see how different levels of thought and feeling in both NFs and NTs complement each other in a way that's deeply satisfying.

(Though not, of course, the only good choice.)

My husband is an ISTP. This description nails his temperament, although he most certainly is not an engineer. He loves risky activities, although age has slowed him down a little bit:

According to Myers-Briggs, ISTPs excel at analyzing situations to reach the heart of a problem so that they can swiftly implement a functional repair, making them ideally suited to the field of engineering. Naturally quiet people, they are interested in understanding how systems operate, focusing on efficient operation and structure. They are open to new information and approaches. But contrary to their seemingly detached natures, ISTPs are often capable of humorously insightful observations about the world around them, and can be closet "daredevils" who gravitate toward fast-moving and/or risky hobbies (such as bungee jumping, hang gliding, motorcycling, parachuting, SCUBA diving, etc.), recreational sports (such as downhill skiing, ice hockey, racing, etc.), and careers (such as aviation, firefighting, etc.).

Though I've occasionally found truth in the old "opposites attract" theory, I have the admittedly-terrible habit of being attracted to other INFP/INFJ's. If that doesn't smell of hubris, I'm not sure what does. ^_-

Seriously speaking, though, I find the combination of a loving nature, a compassionate heart, and a sense of spirituality extremely appealing. The typical INF- knack for creativity just adds to the allure. The problem, however, lies in the lack of complementary attributes; when two people have the same personal faults and vices, it can be very difficult to propel one another into positive change. INF-'s are very supportive, which helps, but in the end it's probably not a very bright idea to get two of us together.

hello. newbie here. I've only just discovered that I am an INFP, and then found this group.

My fiancee is an INTP. We are very similar and the F/T difference completely explains any communication problems we do have. He can go into what I call "debate mode" where he can only see logic, and not notice the fact that I'm over-flooded with emotion and unable to be so logical. However, he is a good listener and very sweet, so if I explain clearly - and logically - to him that I am unable to keep up the level of debate he is at, he is very understanding. We can normally talk through any problem anyway.

p.s. I think my former significant other was an ISFJ. Which makes sense to me, having the feeling in common with him and not with my new partner... the one link that was stronger in the old relationship compared with my otherwise far improved relationship.

#9, 10 My husband is an INTP while I am an INFP. I couldn't imagine a better marriage for me, and we have been married over 12 years. Our only regret is that we had not met sooner. Best wishes for a long, happy, healthy marriage!

I had a crush on Scorpio at my work about 6 years ago. I'm not sure what her MB type was, except the E (extravert). She was a very gossipy type, but I was very attracted to her.
