As English teachers is it our job to find books that appeal to students so they will find and share the love for reading that we have or is it our job to teach the same novels that we were taught? If a child can't read something that appeals to them, how can we expect them to read what doesn't appeal to them? If a child can't find appeal in a book, how can we expect them to analyse it? What's the point of teaching reading analysis if the child doesn't even care for the book? Should we teach analysis or just teach our students how to read? These are just some of the questions I am asking myself as I prepare to graduate and enter the world of teaching. Any helpful thoughts on these subjects or further questions would be appreciated.
