OCTOBER ROOT - Progress thread

ohhh…oohhh as the year starts to wind down we seem to be losing steam even though there are some members that have completed their challenge and are continuing to help the group toward the overall goal.
So since the weather is changing, let's grab a book and cuddle up. Let's do this!
Let's see the Tickers sparkle with enormous proportions so that we dig deep and weed out those UNREAD BOOKS!





These tickers show the progress toward the group goal.

Here are the totals for September. If anybody's number needs adjustment, please let me know.

I've already finished my first ROOT of the month, so I'm already tied with my entire September ROOT output. This is my month to catch up!! I hope so, anyway.

By the way, once my own personal goal is met, what happens to any other ROOTS I may read? I read somewhere they go towards the group goal, but I have no idea how that happens.

You can continue to record your ROOTs and your overage will be shown. The extras for your challenge will help the group toward the overall challenge. You do nothing different but read those ROOTs!

I finished an October ROOT, On What Grounds by Cleo Coyle. Meh.

ETA to add I just finished a second ROOT -- well, almost so short and quick as to be a rootlet.

I like that - a "rootlet".

My first ROOT for October (#16 overall, two away from my goal for the year) is Ron McMillan's "Between Weathers: Travels in 21st Century Shetland". An absolutely brilliant book, I loved it.

I've updated my personal ticker but left the group one alone.

I read three in September, which puts my total at 31.

I've finished my first for this month, The Mother-Daughter Book Club by Heather Vogel Frederick.

I just finished ROOT #36, A Book of Memories by Peter Nadas. Actually I didn't finish it. Couldn't get past the first 200 pp. But it is no longer a ROOT. Off it goes to Goodwill.

Cheli, I realized today as I was updating my ticker that when I changed my ticker on my own thread back in July or so, I did not change it on the thread that has all of our individual tickers that you use to compile our monthly stats. Sorry about that--baffled by technology yet again. I have reverted to my old ticker and updated it to show books read.

I have finally completed a ROOT for October. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. This was a reread for me but it still took me eons to read this chunkster as I was also reading others at the same time.
I have decided to go to the beginning of my 'library' on L.T. and read some of the books I had when I joined. Perhaps I can kill two birds with one stone and rid my shelves of some I should have read yonks ago!

>44 rainpebble: I bought Outlander from audible as a daily deal. Unfortunately, I also keep having other audios come in from the library, too! That means the one I "own" has to be set aside for the library books instead. It's taking me a while to get through it! I think my last audio I had on hold at the library came in today, though, so once I'm done it, I should be able to finish Outlander after that! (I'm almost 3/4 of the way through now, but have set it aside 2 or 3 times now.)

I finished #23 and #24- reviews on my thread and I updated the numbers ticker.

I reached my goal last night! ROOT #18 was the 3rd volume of Spike Milligan's war memoirs, "Monty: His Part in my Victory" (I read the 2nd volume earlier this year as one of my ROOTS too). 3.5/5.

I have read nine more books which takes me past my modest goal of 15. I think that I only read 8 books last report, and the list above says 9 so maybe just add 8 more to the ticker. I can't recall how to change the ticker. My total to date for ROOTs is 17. Thank you for adding 8 more books to the ticker for me.

Congrats Billiejean! To change your personal ticker, just click on the ticker and update the numbers accordingly.... (it'll take you through the process). To update the group ticker? No idea... never done it ;)

I finished The Darling Dahlias and the Confederate Rose by Susan Wittig Albert. That leaves me with one to go and I'm only 40 pages away from finishing another, so I should make it by the end of the month. wohoo (only a little cheer for now)

My 82nd ROOT: Dervish House - by Ian McDonald. A complexly plotted, and awesomely created sci fi thriller.

I thought I was going to be skunked in October, but I got one read yesterday, The Black Fawn by Jim Kjelgaard. I really liked it, although the storyline was not typical of this author.

I love The Black Fawn fuzzi. As children, 2 of my brothers & I, (being very close in age) were given this as a group gift and all of Christmas day there were 2 of us waiting on the 3rd. We read it over and over again and it is still a great favorite of the 2 of us who remain. It is yet posted back and forth between Alaska & Washington annually these 55 years later.
So glad you enjoyed it.
