Does anyone here beside me feel that if Tucker Carlson is the best the conservatives can do on MSNBC (I don't watch Scarborough, it's a time issue)? Does anyone beside me believe Tucker has to be the bottom of the barrel of the Conservative intelligentsia? I watch his show because his guests are usually quite sharp, which of course just serves to emphasize the gulf between them.

Geneg: I haven't watched Tucker recently because his time slot keeps changing, but in the past I've found him alternately amusing and infuriating.

However, I highly recommend that you read his article "The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen" about the time he joined Al Sharpton and others and flew to Africa in an effort to intervene in the Liberian civil war. I just now tried to copy and paste it in my previous post, but couldn't. It was published in Esquire in November 2003, so if you go to Google and just type in the name of the article..............

The dude with the bowtie is Colbert....and the bowtie dude is Tucker?

No, he's the bowtie DUDE.

I thought Tucker was the dude with the bowtie who got yelled at by Jon Stewart. I could be wrong - the whole thing happened ages ago.

Yes, Tucker wears a bow-tie. I think he swiped it from George Will. ;o)

Gah! He looks like my ex-boyfriend... And that bow-tie... I think I'm blind...

(Note: in reference to his intellectual/debate abilities, I know him solely as 'that guy Jon Stewart called a dick on Crossfire.' So I'll keep my comments shallow and derivitive.)

ellevee, you are correct about Tucker being the dude with the bowtie who got yelled at by John Stewart. He has a show on MSNBC, but no longer wears bowties. His show is most interesting because he is the least ept at disguising the MSNBC party line in his discussions. Mostly he is just infuriating because he is so patently wrong about his subject, or because he shouts down his guests in such a dopey way, or because he is spouting what he wants the Democratic Party line to be. Being Republican, he doesn't understand there is no Democratic Party Line.

His guests on the other hand are quite well informed.

MSNBC is interesting to watch because it is to the left of Fox news, but has much the same political goals as Fox News.

A good example is the way they treat Obama and Clinton. Obama is essentially a media creation and pushed forward by MSNBC. Clinton can't win if she doesn't apologize for her vote on Iraq. I've never heard this from another democrat. In fact most democrats I know are firmly in her camp. The purpose of this is Clinton can beat any of the current Republican candidates, but Obama can't. Same result Fox News would like, just going about it differently.

In any case Tucker himself is a doofus, but I prefer his show to both Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann because of his guests.

Actually, I have heard Tucker describe himself as a Libertarian.

Clam, every day she gets worse. I think I'm going to start blogging about her exploits, so the police have a record.

I think she's stealing from me, but I don't have a case until I clean my room and prove conclusively that I haven't lost my own floor.

This sounds ever so much more interesting than Tucker Carlson. why don't you fill in some of the details so we can all enjoy this little mystery!

Well, over the past few days I've lost my iPod, my brothers' iPod mini (and boy is he thrilled, especially since he loaned it to me because mine wasn't working), and now my watch. My roommate tends to think everything in the apartment is hers, including my friends. And her boyfriend (or victim) is a pot-addled weasel who 'borrows' food from me at an alarming rate. So I have my suspicions.

However, as stated above, I am VERY messy. Epically so (is that a word?). I'm 85% certain the iPods are MIA, but the watch is debateable, and I want to be able to accuse the illiterate lunatic with full confidence.

That's my story so far. Now, if you want PAST examples of her crazy...

I think it be great for any of the Talking Head Channels if Bill Buckley were still up to doing a show in this format. You may hate many of his conservative views on issues (and believe me, I do!) but I can still respect his skill and mastery at disarming his opponents with words. One of the best debates I saw in the late 70's or early 80's was between him and Barbara Jordan (TX). An example of 2 great orators that are sadly missing from today’s political debates.

A bit dated, but in the '04 Democratic convention, Garrison Keillor the toast of the Minnesota delegation was invited to be a guest on C-Span. When he learned that Carlson would be there at the same time, he declined.
