I am not yet sure of the amount of books available at the school, but I figure it's better to have too many rather than too few...
What are the best read-alouds/browsing books for 6-7 year olds at an emergent reader stage? Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
If you're looking for books you want them to read independently I would recommend Dr. Seuss books. He started his career writing books with first graders in mind.
Read Alouds: Skippyjon Jones, Chicken Soup with Rice, Hattie and the Fox, To Market, To Market, Stranger in the Woods, A House Is a House for Me, Wolf!, Strega Nona, The Ant Bully, and any version of The Gingerbread Man are some favorites for my class that I can think of off the top of my head.
Good luck! First grade is my favorite.
