Lydia Davis !

Lydia won the Man Booker international 2013. I am afraid to say I never heard about the dear old girl.Anyone acquainted with her writings ?

Eons ago, the Salonistas reviewed all the shortlists of the Man Booker price and established a list of the Bookers wannabees that really mattered. It was called the Salads, the Salon’s alternative list of awards and distinctions.

For the newcomers, it was this list

Heat and Dust by Ruth Prawen Jhabvala. Try to grab the movie as well !
A bend in the river by Naipaul
Earthly Powers by Burgess
Rites of Passage by Golding
Timothy Mo’s “Sour Sweet”
“Empire of the Sun” by Ballard, See the movie too
“Last letters from Hav” by Jan Morris
Bone people by Hulme
The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
What's Bred in the Bone by Robertson Davies
An Insular Possession by Timothy Mo

I know her only as a translator of Proust.

Reviews look interesting.

Translator of Proust! I've never read her own books.

I think that's a good list. Earthly Powers, Empire of the Sun, Bone People, all favourites. The Handmaid's Tale stuck with me but I don't feel like it was a great book but I wonder if that's just because it was assigned reading in high school.
