Hey, all! I sure love the GRTB game. It really prods me to read books I own that I might have otherwise overlooked and it allows me to get an opinion on a book I might be thinking of reading. Also, sometimes I pick a book for someone to read that has no other reviews so that LT has at least one review for that book.
However, lately I have noticed that some of us are going a long time waiting for the next person to come along and prescribe a book for us to read.
I did some checking and it doesn't seem that the creator of this group is around LT anymore. The last time InigoMontoya entered a book was April 2012, and before that one book it was June of 2011.
What does everyone think about seeing if we can transfer administratorship of this group to a more active member? (I'm not sure if people would perceive this as rude or something, but I don't mean it that way.)
Also, any ideas for enticing people to join? Or maybe you think we've got enough people? Just wondering what people's perceptions are and how they're feeling about this group.

Edited: typos

Have you tried to PM InigoMontoya? I think that's the first thing that would need to be done.

As for enticing people to join - perhaps some sort of "advertising campaign" for the group can be devised.

More people might help in faster "perscribing times". But mostly, I think, the speed at which a book is chosen depends on how fast people finish their books. Sometimes it seems that a whole batch of people is finished at roughly the same time, and then it takes a while before people have finished their books. A possible solution would be to have a set time for waiting - for instance, two weeks - and if after that time no-one on the group has finished a book, you would still have some chosing a book for you. A sort-of pinch hit. But that would change the way the game is played, so it's something all (active) members should discuss.

I have been fairly active until I got an assignment that is kicking my tail - I can't seem to get through it. I don't want to give up, but I might have to so I can get back to this group!

I hadn't actually tried to PM Inigo Montoya, as I wanted to know what everyone thought about that before I took any action. I don't even know that I'm the best person to take action.
I don't know that we need a change in the rules, everyone should be able to read at their own pace, but you're right in that more group members would help make it more often that people are finishing books and posting.
I like the idea of an advertising campaign, but I don't really have any ideas about what that would look like. Possibly getting ourselves some sort of featured group status?

I like the rules as they are, as reading the new reviews when someone posts is one of the best things about this group.

A while ago I used the "Invite members to join" link on the group home page to tell my LibraryThing friends about this group, and one of them has since joined (although I'm only assuming that was because of my invitation).

If all the active members invite all their friends, maybe we will get some more members.

isabelx, I really like your suggestion. I'm going to go do that now. Hopefully if anyone else sees this, they will do the same.

And some active members should write their overdue review and start participating again :)

I've just plugged this group on the "Invitations to various obscure groups" thread in the "Welcome to LibraryThing!" group. Maybe we'll get a few new members.

I joined after Whitewavedarling included a link to the group on her 2017 category challenge thread.

I'm going to plan on mentioning it at least occasionally--finishing a few books and posting reviews will be an easy method/reminder for me to do so. Assuming others are reading this message, here's hoping we can get more and more active again :) I wonder if they ever highlight particular groups in the State-of-the-Thing newsletter?

>13 whitewavedarling: They have done! I think last year the ROOT group was highlighted in one of the newsletters, and that helped increase membership a fair bit.

Whenever I review a GRTB book, I mention it in my review and on the group threads where I post.

I'm going to add it to my group tracking threads as a separate post - that'll remind me what I should be reading and hopefully also help to give the group some visibility too.

>14 rabbitprincess:, Do you think it would be okay if I sent LT an email to bring it up, or should that come from the group's organizer? They do so much, I don't want them to accidentally get bombarded with emails from a dozen of us about the same thing, or bother them!
