Couldn't resist a sneak preview before the official launch date and read most of the first chapter - it is sooooo American; some of this is going to pass me by

I have a paperback version with an introduction by Dave Eggers, which I haven't bothered with yet.

bas, I shouldn't speak for some, but I can speak for one, may you consider us your personal footnotes that can be accessed at any time with hopefully helpful information. I'm not all that enamored of the Eggers intro, btw.

Just finished the first chapter "Year of Glad"

In the world of the Jocks and American colleges. Patted myself on the back for picking up on Hal's mother running " a tight pattern" which is from American football I think

I am not phased by the sentence structures, having read most of Patrick White's novels last year and he too is a master of leaving the reader guessing at what actually happened; I am referring to Hal's outburst in the interview room.

I have a feeling that this is gonna be a great read; already hooked.

I skipped the intro, but I might go back to that later when I am more into IJ

"A tight pattern" is straight out of the NFL, bas, you essentially caught the colloquial pass DFW was throwing you. NFL wildcards start this weekend, btw. Glad it's hooking you.
