Does anyone have any thoughts on the H. Rider Haggard African Adventures set published in 1995? Is it worth tracking down?

I have the three books as a set. I enjoyed reading them many years ago. Light hearted rollicking adventure stories. Good for those times when you want to pass the time reading while not stressing the brain too much.

is this author not one where it would be possible to find nice early editions ? I sometimes wonder if there is not a good case for looking for early if not first editions of many of the books produced by Folio Society? Would be a completely different collection. Or is the appeal of a Folio society collection that the books are often produced in a far finer manner than the originals? I like Rider Haggard and also came to be interested in his other countryside / farming life writing.

The quality of the publication's binding and presentation is very important to me, and FS do it better than most. First editions are often poor quality bindings to test the market, and only when the author is successful do better quality publications appear.

If anyone is interested in some quality pictures of these editions, please see: https://strangewaysoflemuria.wordpress.com/2021/01/12/haggardfolios/

This brought back a memory of reading the little abridged illustrated edition of King Solomon’s Mines when I was much younger. Thanks for that.

>8 wcarter: By far the nicest edition I've come across of Haggard's work is the Imprint Society limited edition of King Solomon's Mines, signed by the artist David Gentleman. The colour illustrations are a delight. There's a fine copy presently available on abe, located in the wonderful-sounding (potentially oxymoronic) Gympie, Queensland, Orstraya of all places, at the rude bargain of A$35, should any local discerning bibliophile be interested.

>9 cronshaw: I should add that I have no connection with the seller or with anyone remotely connected to Fitness Pasty Town.

Thanks.
As Gympie is about 150km North of me, and postage only A$6, ordered.
I am so used to paying higher postage costs than book costs for books from the USA and Europe, this is an absolute bargain.
Thanks.
