This thread is for discussion of Don Quixote Part 2, Book 1.
Chapters 1-17, 17 chapters total.
The goal is to read this section in June and July.

Hi everyone! Anyone starting part 2 yet? I'm about 10 chapters in and enjoying it again after a little bit of a slump in the late middle of the first part. I'm trying to read a little more quickly since I think I'll enjoy it more that way.

Just checking in!

I completed this section, mostly while on vacation, and am enjoying it. How is it working for others? Cervantes is really building on the notion of DQ as foolish, but somehow also noble. And Sancho Panzo is a hoot.

I finished it as well. I was pretty interested in the prologue refuting the other work written about Don Quixote between Cervantes's two parts.

I've gotten into reading this again and think I'm going to see if I can just focus on it and finish it in the next month. I think that, for me, I'll get more out of it if I get into the flow of the writing.

I'm about halfway through this section, I thought it better to pick up the book again in July rather than June. I listened to Part 1 on audio but promised myself to actually read Part 2. Enjoying it, DQ is has just set off on his next quest. I'll keep up the monthly portions, this is working for me.

Glad to hear you're on to Part 2! Hope you enjoying reading rather than listening to it.

I started Part 2 Book 1 last night, with a few giggles about the publication of the stories. Looking forward to seeing what happens next.

I finished up to the end of Chapter 17 yesterday and continue to enjoy this one. Book II really has a different flavor to it and I can see where Cervantes was taking jabs at the phony that had taken to writing the stories of Don Quixote when Cervantes took a 'hiatus' from writing it. I agree with the comment above: Cervantes does present Don Quixote as a fool but a noble fool with a lot of insight into philosophical thought. I really enjoyed the meeting with the second knight errant..... that was just fabulous!
