In the interests of once again trying to reboot discussion in this group I'm curious to know what some of you think in terms of how this field can be made much more amenable to others? In other words, I'm sure that many of you when you've told people about your interest in the discipline of diplomatic history the reply has often been a roll of the eyes and some sort of dismissive declaration such as the following: "oh, you just study the history of elderly white men who used to promote all kinds of injustices and who influenced world events to their own selfish goals". Obviously, this field produces harsh feelings in some because of its association with colonialism, imperialism, war, etc. One way that I have seen this dealt with is to subsume the subject into a larger category, usually "International History".

Thoughts?
