I realize I'm running late on this but work has been horrible. (I work for a utility that had lots to do after the storm.)

So I wanted to check in, see how people fared through the storms, the earthquakes, and the aftermath of it all.

What say you?

Hurricane Irene - Our family was okay, but a friend of mine lost his car. He lives in Bowie, Maryland. He was driving home from work at night when his car started floating. He was able to escape from his car, but the car may be ruined. It's at the insurance adjustor now,

Hurrricane Irene - A week after our family vacation, the last 200 feet of our favorite fishing pier was swept out to sea in Emerald Isle, North Carolina. We'd been fishing from that exact spot for years. :(

The earthquake was scary but no damage; Irene took down some trees but was otherwise fine; the flooding from Lee swept out three bridges near my house, nearly killed two neighbors who were driving in it, and left an inch of standing water in our basement. Traffic patterns in the neighborhood are still hellish. And we're wondering if part of the reason so many basements were flooded for the first time in 30-50 years (like ours) is because of invisible earthquake damage...

The few posts to this thread remind me of why I'm glad I'm a Marylander. We seem to avoid the worst of the extremes -- at least most of the time.

Update to # 2

1. My friend's insurance company paid for another car.

2. The Emerald Isle Pier was rebuilt. (Of course, that was in North Carolina - not Maryland).

Horray for good outcomes!
