Hi! Welcome to Quilters & Co. I see that Ms Hargrave and Ms Beyer common to many of us :)
I'm curious, what is your "Desert Island" quilting book - that one book you just couldn't do without?

I only own one quilting book. I like it, but I don't know that I couldn't do without it. I tend to magazines and the real-life library for patterns and tips.

What is it about a particular quilting book that makes it a must-have?

All but one of my quilting books are pattern books. The one non-pattern is I Can't Believe I'm Quilting!, which is what I used to teach myself to quilt. I don't think of any of them as must-haves.

Sidenote: I'm almost done with my first project!

I got a dozen or so quilting magazines at a library book sale not too long ago at 2 for a quarter, so I've been using those almost exclusively for patterns.

Most of the magazines are from the late 90's, but they are all in great shape and have good patterns in them. Once you get much older than 90's or so the magazines start to look quite dated and I find them harder to navigate.

I had always wanted to learn hand quilting, but I am socially not a "group" person. I picked up Quilting for Dummies about 4 years ago. I made my first lap size quilt from the instructions in this book. My other favorite now is The Visual Guide to Quilting. I am only on my second project as every single stitch is by hand! I do not own a machine.

This is not a book, but the best magazine by far is Quilters' Newsletter. It has features for newbies but many articles for advanced quilters. The photography is stunning.
